Apple won't repair or replace the broken microphone on my IPad because the Ipad is a little bent which doesn't actually affect the IPad. I see the broken microphone as a separate issue. What to do?

While Apple will rarely baulk at minor cosmetic surface damage, Apple have no obligation to honour a warranty for any device that exhibits visible evidence of physical damage.

Consider that the bent chassis of your iPad demonstrates that the iPad has suffered physical forces beyond which it was designed to withstand. Many of the iPad’s internal components (such as the motherboard) are attached to the iPad casing - this “chassis” providing physical support for these components. Bending the chassis may transfer unintended forces to internal components and/or circuitry - which can cause failure. As such, it is impossible to decouple physical damage from internal damage to your microphone or its associated circuitry.

If you have benefit of an active AppleCare+ plan, this being an insurance product, you can make a claim for replacement of a damaged device. Without benefit of AppleCare+, you can seek an out-of-warranty repair - the cost of which is typically c.60% of the “as new” cost of the iPad.

“Thank you for the response, so Apple are not under no obligation to fix my IPad even if it's still under warranty because there's slight damage to it that may be unrelated to the broken mic?”

You are welcome.

Apple and Coverage:

Coverage is Apple’s call. No one here has any say in that, being these are just User-to-User forums. So, do you have AppleCare with this? If so, that might make it a bit different. If these were like this when you opened the item, then it might be taken in for replacement, as a faulty device.
