MacBook Pro 2016 SSD enclosure?

Hello,

I am desperately looking for a SSD enclosure for my dead MacBook Pro 2016 with a PCI on-board SSD. The options on Amazon and OWC only support MacBook Pros from 2013 to 2015. But these too have a PCI SSD.

Does anyone know the difference?

Can anyone recommend an enclosure fit for this specific SSD?

many many thanks!!

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 11.5

Perhaps with correct exact identification of the build model year MacBook Pro (13-inch)

that may help facilitate either obtaining an enclosure, or narrowing a field. ~ Since there

are certain partial-year models, those might appear correct; but are not..

OWC has a workpage where one could try and go backward - to identify these sub-model

variants; also helpful may be the MacTracker app, where this type of info is normally used.

Because OWC offers several, there is no guarantee the ones you find with incorrect info

would be useful; they have replacement/upgrade PCI SSD parts, and others.. And some

show "2016" while actually were used into "2017" as sub-year variant.

This had been useful when I had been seeking additional upgrade update parts for older

iBook/PowerBook/MacBook/MacBook Pro, and other Apple desktop/tower Macs.

upgrades guaranteed to work with your mac by owc (MB/Pro)

In order to locate proper enclosure for the SSD your mac may have,

..one way may be to use correct SSD replacement part number and

~ then look into their enclosures, sold separately; to match/fit parts..

See example from above (shows their kit with replacement SSD and kits)

[To find just that SSD enclosure, and hope that is all ~ look into enclosures to match specs.]

Maybe this aspect and tedious research could potentially be a path forward?

The MBPro 13" 2016 & 2017 non-touchbar models have yet another new unique proprietary Apple SSD design. I'm not aware of any third party adapters or enclosures for this SSD. The only options for recovering data is by having the laptop repaired, or by installing the SSD into a working laptop of the same model, or by having a professional data recovery service such as Drive Savers attempt data recovery.

FYI, people should always have frequent and regular backups of their computer and all external media (including the cloud) which contains important & unique data. It is impossible to recover accidentally deleted data from an SSD after the Trash has been emptied, plus an SSD can fail at any time without any warning signs (even a brand new SSD). There are a lot of ways to permanently lose access to data on the USB-C Macs if there are no backups.
