iPad 9th Generation - Facebook Messenger not loading

Hi there,


I just setup a 9th Generation iPad with 256Gig for my 80 year old Aunt. I did a manual install because her old iPad gave an Install failed message twice when I tried the Quick Start method with them side-by-side. So I downloaded the Apps and Data from the Cloud from a backup.


Everything worked great. All of her apps work - except for the Facebook Messenger app. The Facebook app works great. I also updated the iOS to 16.1.1. When I try to access the Messenger app - it stalls and all I see is a white screen and a spinning black wheel. The app fails to load. I deleted both apps and restarted the iPad and reinstalled both apps from the App Store. The Facebook app works great - but the Facebook Messenger app still stalls out and doesn't load.


Any ideas?

There are many reports of issues with Messenger. Many users also report that deleting both the FaceBook and Messenger Apps from the iPad, prior to restarting and reinstalling the Apps, will resolve the problem. Perhaps this will also work for you:


Delete apps on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

Force restart iPad - Apple Support



After restarting the iPad, install Messenger App first - and then reinstall the FaceBook App:

When I got down there, I deleted both apps. Did the Forced Restart - downloaded the Messenger App - then the Facebook App. Opened the Messenger App - and it didn't work.


So, I deleted them both again - did another Forced Restart - downloaded the Messenger App - but this time I opened the Messenger App - and it launched and worked perfectly. Then, I downloaded the Facebook App and it works great too!
