When I download an vpn app from Appstore and try to connect, the system tells me to enter my authentication information. when I ignore that, it says "No VPN shared secret was provided. Verify your settings and try reconnecting.". Why is this happening?

Ask the VPN IT Admin who is managing the private network you are trying to connect to.
