iDVD

I used "iDVD" a few years ago to author family DVDs for birthdays, anniversaries, vacations, etc. Now I would like to do that again for my granddaughters' birthdays. However, iDVD is no longer available. Is there a good alternative?

One iDVD alternative app that has been recommended on this forum is DVD Creator by peng GUIPING that is available at the Apple online app store for about $14.97, the last time I looked. It is not as good or versatile as iDVD, but then no other DVD authoring program is either. You also would need an optical DVD burner and some good quality DVD discs. The basic procedure is to create your movie in iMovie and export it to your desktop. From there you can drag or otherwise import it into whatever DVD authoring program that you have chosen.

With a DVD authoring program you would be burning a DVD disc. These days a lot of folks have gotten away from burning DVD discs, because there are alternative ways of creating and sharing your movie. For example, you could save it to a thumb drive that could be mailed or delivered to your family members. You could upload the movie to You Tube or other video website, and email to your friends and family the link to the movie.

However, DVD discs are, in my opinion, one of the best ways for long term storage of your movies.

Trim and arrange videos and photos

Fine-tune your movie by making clips longer or shorter, changing the sequence of clips, and more.

Add music and sound effects

iMovie includes built-in soundtrack music and sound effects that you can use in your iMovie project—in addition to or in place of the sound recorded with your video clips. Learn how to add music, sound effects, and adjust the audio levels in your movie.

Add text and titles

Add text to video clips or photos, create a title sequence, and add end credits to your movie. Learn how to add text to your project.

Change the look of your movie

Change the way your movie looks with effects like video filters, color adjustment tools, and the Ken Burns effect. You can also record video in front of a green or blue screen, then use the green-screen effect in iMovie to change the background of your video.

Share or export your movie

Send your finished movie to friends and family, export it to watch it on other devices, or share it on social media. Learn how to share or export your movie."

We hope this helps.

Cheers!
