iPhone backup
I don't want to install new software to use hardware that I already own and was already using. How do I backup my phone without installing new bloatware on iMAC?
iPhone 6, iOS 10

Hello Whippersnap,
Welcome to Apple Support Communities!
We want to help you create an iPhone backup to ensure your data is protected.
We see you viewed the Apple Support page for If your Mac says that a software update is required to connect to iPhone or iPad - Apple Support
If you're seeing that particular error, the only way to connect will be to update the software.
From the link:
"The message says that a software update is required to connect to your iPhone (or iPad, or iOS device), and asks if you would like to download and install this update now. Click Install. After the update is installed on your Mac, you should be able to connect to your device as expected.

If you continue to see this message, update macOS on your Mac.
Learn what to do if your Mac doesn't recognize your iPhone or iPad."
You could also use iCloud to create the iPhone backup. Use the details here: How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support
We hope this helps to resolve the error so you can use your computer to backup your iPhone or use iCloud if needed.
Cheers!

You may do so by backing up to iCloud.

Otherwise, add the required software to your iMac.
Whippersnap,
The previous message offered two ways to back up your device.
You can backup via iTunes which is not considered bloatware.
Another option was using iCloud which doesn't require any installation at all.
We would also recommend leaving feedback for Apple directly regarding the software used to back up your device: iTunes
Cheers!
You didn’t answer my question. You just said what you wanted to hear yourself say. This was my question:
