Accessing locked Notes: neither password nor face ID work

I just transfered my iPhone XS Max to my new iPhone 14 promax.. all my other hiccups have been resolved. However, I am unable to open a locked note that is extremely important to me. I followed the steps that I see printed everywhere, about Settings, Notes, password, reset password, turn on Face ID. Did not work for me. I have also tried restarting my phone, still cannot open my locked Note.

Apple Support says there’s nothing they can do to help me access that "old" note.

Any ideas? would it be silly to transfer everything back to my old phone? Open it from there where I had no problems?

Is it STILL on your “old” phone or did you [pre-maturely] erase it ???

The normal transfer routine leaves everything on your old device for just this eventuality.

The short answer is that unless you can remember the password used to encrypt the note … it will remain encrypted for eternity.

When you lock a note on an iPhone you are warned that if you forget the passcode you will not be able to access the note again, and you were given the opportunity to add a passcode hint. If you didn’t heed these warnings you are pretty much out of luck; the only possible way out is to guess the passcode. You get unlimited guesses.

Face ID is a shortcut to entering the passcode; it is not a replacement for the passcode.
