Hello 1122Kylie,

To help troubleshoot, first ensure your companion iPhone has the latest version of iOS. To do so, tap Settings > General > Software Update. Additionally, test after restarting your iPhone and then Apple Watch. Updating iOS and restarting your devices can help to clear up unexpected behavior:

"How to restart your Apple Watch if you have watchOS 9

  1. If your Apple Watch is charging, take it off the charger.
  2. Press and hold the side button until you see the power button  in the upper-right corner of the display.
  3. Tap the power button.
  4. Drag the Power Off slider.
  5. After your watch turns off, press and hold the side button again until you see the Apple logo."

Additionally, updating the software while connected to a different network may help to isolate away from network issues.

If the update was downloaded successfully to your Apple Watch, then deleting the download and re-downloading it can help to clear up the issue. To do so, take these steps:

1) Open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone

2) Tap General > Storage

3) Locate the update and delete it

4) Place your Apple Watch on a charger

5) Try to update again: Settings > General > Software Update
