How do I improve my battery calibration on iPhone XS Max

my battery health is at 69% is there any way I can improve the calibration to significantly affect the battery health?

You may have a poor battery condition which cannot provide sufficient power for peak performance. If your battery's Maximum Capacity shows a value of 80% or less, then it has gone through its lifecycle and therefore should be replaced, according to Apple. There is nothing that you can do to improve the battery health except to get the battery replaced with a new one.
