Hi, Do i need internet connection if backing up to your pc using itunes and connected using a usb cable?

Thank you for your reply, much appreciated. So basically I have been having a hard time trying to back up my new iPhone 14 256 gig. I have always used iTunes to do my back ups and they have always worked, however with this phone it will just not complete a back up.

I bought a new usb to lightning cable from the istore (Belkin) and first tried that, the back up starts fine, it takes around 6+ hours to get close to the end of the bar at the top of the screen on iTunes but for some reason just doesn’t finish the back up, no error messages either.

i thought maybe it could be an issue with my pc as I have been experiencing issues with it lately so I tried the same back up on my Mac, I still had the same issue. I have also tried using an original Apple cable as I thought maybe it could be a problem with the cable I purchased. Still will not back up, just says backing up iPhone for hours on end.

I then sent a message asking for technical assistance on the Apple website and the consultant who replied insisted that even when connected via a cable I need an internet connect to do the back up, strange cos it doesn’t make any sense if you are backing up to the pc itself. I also called the international call center and the lady I spoke to told me that you do not need internet to back up to iTunes using a cable.

I eventually had to purchase more space on iCloud and do the backup that way, the entire back up still took over 5 hours to complete though.

I would still like to do back ups to my pc as well but do not know what else to try to get the back up to finish.
