Apple Watch will not pair with new iPhone 14

I recently upgraded from i phone 12 to i phone 14. Everything works fine except that the old i watch will not pair with the new phone. The old phone has been cleaned in preparation for return.

First, make sure that both devices are up-to-date:

iPhone Software Update.
Watch Software Update.

Then make sure both devices are in close proximity with the following settings:

AirPlane turned off
WiFi turned on
Bluetooth turned on
