Scam with Microsoft

My husband bought a single use Microsoft office for his new Mac air m2 from the apple store.

he tried to install and got an error to call Microsoft.

the Microsoft person said our whole house had a firewall problem and in order to fix we had to buy a $1900 Cisco system ! Or we could not install

I have checked our viral software and it is up to date. Our modem router is Xfinity and they said it is secure.

has anyone else had this problem?

Not sure why Microsoft is suggesting you need a $1900 Cisco router to install office. Are you sure you called Microsoft Support? There's no reason for anyone to suggest such a thing to install a piece of software.

If your network is somehow blocking Microsoft's activation server and that is why it cannot install, then you would need to modify your settings to allow it.

What kind of error did you get?

What did the error say?

Have you tried turning off any Anti-virus or VPN you may have installed on your computer?

Have you tried contacting Microsoft support again? See if you get a different support person that does not suggest $1900 hardware products to install a piece of software.

You can tell whoever answers the call right off the bat that that's what they suggested last time.
