Cold Weather Outdoor iPhone Issues

I’m looking for help using iPhone in cold weather. The operating temperature limits of the lithium-ion battery technology used in the iPhone and many other mobile devices is 32º - 113º F.

Are there any accessories or apps that assist using an iPhone outdoors in below freezing weather such as skiing, ice fishing, hiking, camping, or photography? I ask because many questions and comments have been posted about why the iPhone suddenly stops working in cold weather situations. Is there an iPhone case like a hand warmer for instance? Or even an app showing the current operating temperature of the battery or trend lines that could potentially give a warning and/or alert to reaching operating temperature limits?

You can try keeping the phone in an inside pocket close to your body. If you do that, the phone will probably be usable for short periods of time outside of your jacket. I wouldn't use a hand warmer packet. While a lithium-ion battery that gets too cold will only discharge and stop working, one that gets too hot can explode.

No, sadly the temperature levels are hardware which cannot be fixed or helped by software like apps or accessories. I dont think to my knowledge that there are any apps for monitoring battery stats.
