How far can one update the software of an Ipad Gen 6? I purchased a refurbished I pad Gen 6 and am just curious.

We are all, largely, just users here, just like you!
No one here will ever know this info. Only Apple has control of when their older devices will get full support ended.
That stated, the 6th gen iPad came out in 2018.
So, this iPad year and model will get 5 years of full support from Apple, by next Fall 2023.
That 6th gen iPad may get a few more years of support, based upon the 2014 iPad Air 2, which received 8 years of full support from Apple.
Third party app developers, typically, continue full support of aging Apple mobile devices for, approximately, 3 more years, then all support, for old/er Apple devices, finally ends.
So, that iPad year and model, potentially, has a total of 10-11 years of support.
