Optical Digital Audio In Port

It seems my OSX won't play a Music cdrw disc. I really wish it would.

Anyway I bought a cable to connect my stand alone cd recorder to the optical digital audio in port. While playing a cd from it if I go to systems preferences then sound then input I can see the computer is getting the signal ( similar to a VU meter ) yet I can't hear the cd anywhere.

My whole purpose was to transfer the music to an ITunes folder then to a usb memory stick.

Any thoughts? Suggestions?

If you see the input signal then it should be available for recording through a recording app. QuickTime should work, although you have check if it works in stereo.


A proper audio recording app like Audacity or similar would be a better option: https://www.audacityteam.org/


You don't hear the "live" input probably because it's considered as an input to be recorded or transmitted and not listened. Like the built in microphone: usually you don't hear yourself until you record it, unless you do some sort of audio routing.
