Volume adjustment on lock screen no longer available

Why did apple remove the ability to adjust volume on the lock screen while playing music? This is so much more convenient than using the side buttons. The screen feature allowed me to adjust volume without having to pick up my phone. Sure, I can swipe up, find the music app, and adjust it on the screen without picking up the phone. Really?
