Backed up iPhone encrypted, password not working. I have tried every single password that I have ever used and nothing is working. I use 4 different passwords ONKY, yet apple says none work

Ive backed up for a nee battery install from apple, yet the 4 passwords I use solely for my apple products are not working. Am I missing something? I thought it would be my main account password but no go...??? Any ideas as to what has gone wrong

The backup encryption is controlled entirely by the phone, not your Mac; the Mac just puts in requests for backups, which are then streamed to it. If it was on before, it still will be now. The password used then will be the one you need now to either turn encryption off or change the password, and to restore any backup made since.

You say you tried every password. Try and remember the particular passwords or passcodes you might use on your phone, specifically. Otherwise, you need to reset your settings to clear the backup password, as there's no other way.

When you tick the box to back up, you're prompted for a password. Your Mac sends a request to your phone, "Now encrypt all backups with this password." Every time your Mac asks for a backup from this point on, your phone streams a backup to it that is encrypted with the key you gave before. Observe that nothing about this process requires the same Mac to be used for the "set password" and the "backup" requests. Crucially, your Mac need not remember that password, your phone does.

You've hit a very unfortunate but all-too-common scenario, namely, that you forgot your backup password when it came time to restore. I suppose Apple could have reduced the odds of this happening, by demanding that you verify your backup password when it notices it's partnered with a new Mac and you request to restore. But it doesn't, because backup and sync are different things that can be performed separately. I'm very sorry you find yourself in this situation. Try to recall your encryption password--that's the one you set when you first ticked that box to encrypt. You need that. Otherwise, I'm afraid you'll be starting from scratch.

It's hard to pinpoint what type encryption password that users might choose, since some users use their Apple ID password and others choose a completely separate encryption password.

Not sure if the encryption password is case sensitive, but you might try combinations of caps and small letters if you have not already done so.

Frustrating, because there are no other workarounds to get at the backup.

Its a brand new M1 Mac, first time ive backed up iPhone (yesterday) and at no point did it ask for a password. The encrypt box was checked, and ive just checked the steps online, and I never had a box come up asking for a password and then to verify said password....I just clicked backup, and it proceeded to do so. Even when the password box comes up when trying to restore my iPhone backup, I put in my account password, it erased all content, only to then tell me that the password was incorrect so now my phone is completely lost of all its data. This is obviously a complete b*lls up from the OS.......all running the same compatible OS

So a new Mac, that didnt ask for a password would back up and encrypt my iPhone, and then when restoring the backup, would ask for a password, continue as if everything is fine, only to then erase the entire contents of the phone, AND then tell me the password was incorrect...???? if it erases the phone, then the password is gone with it, right?? So why would the phone deal with the encryption?
