Apple TV Not Responding to Remotes

Pressing pause using the remote and the phone's remote do not work. It pauses for a split second and resumes. I'm also having trouble with apps not responding at all to the remotes. I've already updated and reset the Apple TV device. The problem is still occuring and it happens in all apps on the Apple TV.

Hi SandyM65,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. You've tried some great steps so far. Although it happens with the iPhone Apple TV Remote as well, we'd like to troubleshoot the Apple TV remote to see if that helps. Try the guidance from If your Siri Remote or Apple TV Remote isn't working - Apple Support. The following section may be particularly helpful.

"Restart your remote

If your remote still isn't working as expected, try restarting your remote.

  1. Press and hold the TV/Control Center button  and the Volume Down button  at the same time. Hold the buttons down for about 5 seconds, or until the status light on your Apple TV turns off and on again.
  2. Release the buttons. Then wait 5 to 10 seconds for a Connection Lost notification to appear on your TV screen.
  3. Wait while your remote restarts. When the Connected notification appears, you can use your remote."

Take care.

SandyM65,

Could you please let us know which Apple TV hardware we're working with? We'd like to be sure we're targeting our troubleshooting and isolating as much as we can.

If possible, can you test using the remote from a different place in the room? For example, if you're always in one area of the room your Apple TV is in, does the issue persist from the other side of the room or at a different angle? Also, has anything change recently such as new equipment coming in to the room near your Apple TV? We're trying to rule out interference as a possibility.

Thanks.
