Collaboration not available unable to start collaboration

Solved. I spoke with apple support and it is a known issue with 16.x. In the meantime they suggested to sign out of iCloud and sign back in. That fixed the issue for me.

This solved it for me. I went to settings on my phone, searched "iCloud Drive" and tapped that choice. In the new window, I selected "Sync this iPhone" and was then able to share the note using my phone.

I've had this problem for a few months, on my phone only--worked fine on my macbook. And just now I was getting a similar error on my macbook. Actually what happens when I try to share Note on the macbook, it goes immediately to Messages but nothing further happens. And the solution above works on my phone, but not the latptop. :(

Turn off privacy relay. I just did that and I can now share notes

CONFIRMED SOLUTION: make sure iCloud Drive is turned on in iCloud menu. Close reminders app, then reopen. Collaboration should be working again!

Updated my iCloud storage to 1TB and that didn't work. Logged out of apple id on phone and signed back in, was then able to send notes to collaborate.

Also have the same problem and unsuccessfully tried all these troubleshooting steps.

My workaround was to use notes on my laptop (syncs from my phone) and share that way. No issues whatsoever. The note then updates on my phone and everyone can add to it.

Definitely a phone issue.

This helped thanks. By turning on the iCloud Drive. I started deleting pics thinking I didn’t have enough space. That wasn’t working & this immediately helped.

Ahh I didnt notice I was posting to a thread about the same problem but with Notes rather than FreeForm. I would still look at your Apps using iCloud settings to see what apps are note enabled. Perhaps there is something overlooked. In my case I had turned off a number of Apps/services because I have limited iCloud space. Good luck!

Be sure to check that FreeForm is also enabled in Apps using iCloud. This seems to be a default setting on iOS but not on macOS.

My wife’s phone has the same issue. But I was able to airdrop her notes to my iPhone and then collaborate back with her without issue. I have a 13 pro max and she has an XS max

This happened to me too, but only after I updated to iOS 16.1. Prior to that, collaboration worked just fine. I am signed into iCloud, have tried restarting, checking the Notes I am using are not locked.

Installed the latest iOS update 16.2 this morning and still experiencing the same issues that was reported here. I noticed that I'm unable to add fellow contacts to shared albums now also. I can add the contact but they do not get any notification of the add.
