Open Water Monthly Challenge in December???

I was really surprised by the monthly challenge for December that I got today on my Apple Watch:

"Nice work getting your Open Water Swim in lately. This month hit 4 Open Water Swim workouts of at least 5 minutes..."

I have never done an open water workout with my watch (I am afraid that the salt water could damage it). I have been swimming in an indoor pool a lot lately though, but I don't think this can be considered "open water swim".

The temperatures where I live are around freezing in December, so rest assured I will not be doing any open water swimming soon.

When you swim do you select a workout or does the watch select it for you?

If the watch is deciding it will go to outdoor.

You can always choose outdoor swim and swim in a pool. It is just the GPS function that is being used that is different.

BTW salt water has never harmed my watch. I just returned from 2 weeks in Barbados with most of my time in the ocean.

Yes, I thought I might have selected outdoor swim at some point of time and had a look, but I have not - here is a screenshot from my All Workouts page, where this type of workout is missing from the filter (i.e. I have never done it):

I always select Pool Swim (where you first select the size of the swimming pool)
