Hello Mark-In-STL,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities!

We want to help keep your Mac connected to the strongest network connection.

This explains that macOS should take care of this without having to worry about which network you're using:

"When your iOS or iPadOS device or your Mac with macOS Ventura or later evaluates service set identifiers (SSIDs) and determines which network to auto-join, it tries to connect to networks in this order:

  1. Your "most preferred" network
  2. Known networks are scored based on your actions. If you manually switch to a network, its score increases. If you manually disconnect from a network, its score decreases. The "most preferred" network is the network with the highest score."

This Apple Support page has the full details: How iOS, iPadOS, and macOS decide which wireless network to auto-join - Apple Support

We hope this helps to answer your question and explain how macOS chooses the best Wi-Fi network to use depending on your location and signal strength.

Cheers!
