Why did my the latest software update for my iPhone 13 erase all the data?

The latest iPhone update erased all the data on my phone. Why did this happen?

iPhone 6, iOS 12

What iOS version did you update last? Simply saying "last upgrade" leaves a lot of doubt in my mind.

Many users who have updated to iOS 16 and above must have a similar issue if the issues stated by you are due to the iOS.

Unless you state what the issue is many in this forum may not be able to respond positively to the issue you are facing.

With the limited information that you have provided, It is hard to even guess the problems faced by you.

The question could not be clearer. There was an iPhone update yesterday and it erased the data on my iPhone 13

If you knew anything about iPhone operating systems, you would know this.

I do not need help on how to ask a questions. You, on the other hand, could benefit from reading up on how to civilly engage with other people in forums and get off your high horse.

Hi Bob,

It is a new iPhone 13, I've had for about a month. The update issued by Apple yesterday was IOS 16.1.2 After the import, an error message appeared: "Trying to restore data". My data was backed up on the cloud so I was able to retrieve my data. Restoring the data took about an hour. Once completed, I was promoted to the set up your iPhone and Siri steps, as if it were a new phone. All very odd. Never experienced anything like this with previous updates or iPhones.
