External Screen not recognised on 2018 MacBook Air with OS 13.0.1

I have recently tried connecting an HP external screen that I regularly used with my MacBook Air about 18 months ago. There have been several operating system updates since then and it now appears that the screen is not recognised.

The connection is USB-C and the screen has no external power supply. I have tried the connection through a powered hub in case the drain on the MacBook was too much but the screen says there is no signal.

The only display the MacBook Air gives as an option is the main TV connection via AirPlay.

Anyone have any ideas about how to fix this and get the USB-C screen to connect?

I would try going into System Settings > Displays. then in the panel on the right, you can press and hold your keyboard's "option" key. the "Night Shift" button will become the "Detect Displays" button". then click the "Detect Displays" button.
