My HP printer no longer communicates wirelessly with my MacBook Air after Ventura

My HP printer also no longer communicates wirelessly with my MacBook Air after Ventura update. It’s on the AirPrint supported list. I also have an older MacBook Pro running Big Sur that still prints normally so I know it’s not the printer that’s the problem. I’ve spent over 2 hours on the phone to an Apple support person trying all sorts of things to no avail. When is Apple going to admit that Ventura has a problem and take action to fix it? How many makes and models of printers are impacted by this defect? Are they going to wait until an entire government department or corporation loses its ability to print? Stop blaming the printer manufacturers and fix the problem.

Also, AirPrint relies upon mDNS/Bonjour for device discovery. Sometimes (for example, after a system change), it may become necessary to "update" the router about all its connected computers/devices. A power-cycle procedure in a specific order, with waiting times, could be one way. You may want to try this:

Check the Wi-Fi settings. Next, power off the Wi-Fi router, the printer, the Macs, and all other devices/computers. Wait two to three minutes. Power on the router. Wait two to three minutes. Power on the printer. Wait a minute or two. Power on the Macs. Finally, power on all other devices/computers.

As I said, I've already spent 2 hours on the phone to a Apple support person and done all this.

Problem is that when I delete the printer and try to re-connect it, my MacBook Air can't re-connect because it can't see it.

I just get "printer offline"

But it isn't offline, because my old MacBook Pro running Big Sur can see it.

So can my iPhone and iPad

This is a defect in Ventura that needs fixing urgently

Please note that this is a user-to-user forum. We are all users, just like you. We are not Apple, nor HP. It is extremely difficult for Old Toad, or anyone else here, to know what you have tried (since you did not provide a description).

So can my iPhone and iPad


"Offline" could mean that the printer is not detectable on a Wi-Fi network, which it obviously is in this case. It could also mean not recognised (for AirPrint) by one or more devices/computers, which is why I suggested the power-cycle sequence. Have you tried it?

Yes, Jan apologies.

I've been so frustrated talking to 3 different Apple advisors in 3 different countries over the past few days and got absolutely nowhere.

The second call was over 2 hours.

I have a case number and pages and pages of emails, notes, trials, screen prints etc.


You, of course, are absolutely right.

I followed your guidance re turning off the router etc, and powering the devices up again in the sequence you suggested.

Lo and behold! (well, it is Christmas) - it's all now working and back to normal.

I don't know why those Apple so-called specialists didn't know that

But all's well in my home now.
