Mark email as read if it is moved to trash?

On my iPhone 13 Pro (iOS 16.1.1), I often delete emails without opening them. However, on my Mac Mini (2018 3.6 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i3 macOS Monterey 12.6.1), these emails are marked as unread in the Mail application (Version 16.0) and on the Mail badge app icon in the toolbar shows as well as in my Notification Center. This behavior is annoying. Is there a way to have things automatically mark an email as read upon moving it to trash?
