Hi Obscureities,
To receive an alert, there are a few settings that you need to enable. The following is from the same article previously shared, What to do if you get an alert that an AirTag, Find My network accessory, or set of AirPods is with you - Apple Support.
"Unwanted tracking
If any AirTag, AirPods, or other Find My network accessory separated from its owner is seen moving with you over time, you'll be notified in one of two ways. These features were created specifically to discourage people from trying to track you without your knowledge.
2. If you don't have an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, an AirTag that isn't with its owner for a period of time will emit a sound when it's moved. This type of notification isn't supported with AirPods."
Kind regards.
Hey Obscureities,
That is a great question! If an AirTag is moving with you, if using an iPhone and have it set up you'll see an alert. If you don't have an Apple device, the AirTag will eventually start to emit a sound. The following resource has great information on what to do if you find an AirTag is moving with you and steps to take for unwanted tracking, what to do if you see an alert, or hear a sound from an AirTag: What to do if you get an alert that an AirTag, Find My network accessory, or set of AirPods is with you - Apple Support
Thanks for participating in Apple Support Communities.
Take care!
Hello,
I appreciate the feedback.. So it's not an automatic response for a IPhone to detect and alert the presence of an AirTag unless you have it set up.
What are the correct steps to take to assure that the iPhone is setup?
