Music Library is gone

Earlier this year I noticed my music library on my iPhone was gone. When I clicked on Playlists, for example, instead of seeing the many I’ve created over the years using both purchased songs and songs I’ve uploaded to iTunes, it says “Looking for your playlists? Playlists you create will appear here.”

I enjoyed a 6 month free trial of Apple Music, but decided not to continue after the trial was over. It was sometime after the trial ended that I noticed my library was gone.

For years I never had a problem with my library, but now I do, and the only difference is that I briefly subscribed via a free trial to Apple Music, and no longer do.

I finally located my music listed under a different library name and only accessible through home sharing, but this is such a pain to click into. My library has always just been my default library when I open the music app, and now it’s been moved.

Is there a way to move it back? When I go into settings>music there is no option under library to sync with cloud. Everything is set up correctly on my iMac for home sharing, and all my devices are signed in using the same apple id.

I just want to be able to open my music app and have all my music right there like it always was.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Apple Music is designed primarily for subscription music, doesn’t co-exist with personal/ripped collections very well. Use instead, a 3rd party app like File Explorer, the basic version of which is free. The pro version works across all devices on your local network and also popular cloud services. Both versions are ad-free and come with built-players, can recommend.

It’s ridiculous that it wouldn’t simply revert back to how it was before. Seems a but chincy of Apple, like they’re trying to force you to continue paying for their service.

But I don’t even know how to rebuild my library. All of my music is on my iMac, in my iTunes library still, which is my Apple account with my Apple ID. So it doesn’t seem like I need to rebuild anything. I just need to be able to sync it to my iPhone, again, which uses the same Apple account and ID. But there doesn’t seem to be an option to align the two.
