My ex erased my Apple TV and now it won't let me do anything without a 4 digit passcode. He claims he doesn't know, so I know I'm not going to get it out of him. Is there a way to factory reset?

I think the device was not properly reset (“erased”), but instead some account information was deleted.
A properly reset device would ask the new user to set it up again, like new.
