So my original phone’s screen got busted and I had to get a new device. After setting up the new device the only thing it restored was old pictures and videos that I had deleted. No contacts no apps and none of the recent photos I kept

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities. To get started, are you missing this data after restoring a previous iCloud backup? If so, did you by chance have your contacts and photos synced with iCloud before having the device replaced? We ask because any information you have synced with iCloud would not stored in an iCloud backup.
If you did, try logging into your iCloud account from a computer or iPad at this link here, and check to see if your photos and contacts appear as expected: iCloud - Apple
To restore this data, you'll just need to be signed into the same iCloud account, and ensure that you have the settings selected in Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud on your iOS device.
