Contacts is not functioning since update. How to get it back to former usefulness.

I cannot delete a contact from a list. It just makes a doink sound. It won't highlight "delete from list" under the Edit function. It won't make a new list so I can start over. When I type the title in, it just disappears. It used to work wonderfully. Now it doesn't work at all. Help appreciated. Thank you.
