Why doesn't Apple service tell you in advance that they do not perform service on watches in the Apple store?

Why doesn't Apple service tell you in advance that they do not perform service on watches in the Apple store. Made an appointment and was told that they could not repair on site. What's the point in making an in person appointment if no on site repairs are available. Also was told the watch could be sent in, but not for the $79 battery replacement fee. I was told it would be $300. Have had phone batteries replaced in the store several times and it always went well. Will be looking at other options when it is time to replace my phone / watch.

We are all users on this user to user only forum. To my knowledge, Apple has never offered instore repairs on Apple Watch. And you were not informed correctly that you cannot send in your Apple Watch for a battery repair.

My guess on why no Apple Watch repairs are inside Apple Stores is the difficulty in working on a much smaller device and the absolute need to ensure water resistance is maintained on any watch they service. But again, I'm just a user like you and we can't answer why questions.

The beauty of a free market is you have options in what you buy. You can buy Samsung, Sony, Pixel if you feel they offer a better product to suit your needs. But I don't think they offer instore repairs on anything.
