kill an upload

My partner has done something that has triggered an upload of multiple files to iCloud (>100GB and way in excess of available space). She has no idea what this was. and it is keeping her MacBook Pro a little preoccupied.

Is there a way I can kill the task and stop it restarting. I've had a look in Activity Monitor and Force Quit the task absorbing all the CPU but it just keeps on coming back

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 10.13

Hi Timothy Wicks,

If something is uploading a lot of files to iCloud from your Mac, you may need to turn off the feature that is doing this a just stopping the program won't help. Could you have Desktop and Documents turned on? This would upload all item in your Desktop folder and Documents folder. To check see Add your Desktop and Documents files to iCloud Drive:

"Turn off Desktop and Documents

  1. From your Mac, choose Apple menu  > System Settings. In macOS Monterey or earlier, choose Apple menu  > System Preferences.
  2. Click Apple ID, then click iCloud.
  3. Next to iCloud Drive, click Options.
  4. Deselect Desktop & Documents Folders.
  5. Click Done."

If it is not Desktop and Documents, check the other iCloud features in System Preferences.

Take care.
