iCloud Custom Domain - Is this Domain Hosting or a Redirect/Forwarding Service?

Hi, I currently have email addresses hosted by GoDaddy and need to find another email hosting provider. I am an Apple iCloud+ subscriber. I can see that I can setup my custom domain (which I own) and their associated email addresses on iCloud+. I only have two email addresses which fits under the maximum allowable. However my question is, if I setup my custom domain on iCloud+ does this mean that Apple iCloud+ now hosts my domain? In which case do I cancel my domain hosting with GoDaddy? Or do I still need to pay GoDaddy to host my domain as Apple only provides a domain redirect/forwarding service?

Thanks for your help

Peter

Hello Peter Dr,

It depends how you set it up. If you're using the custom email domain service through iCloud Mail, then that is just redirecting email from a domain you already own.

Use Custom Email Domain with iCloud Mail

If you purchase an email domain directly from Apple, then your domain is hosted through iCloud.

Hey Peter Dr,

The inbox will have all of the messages for all of the accounts in it. If you tap Mailboxes in the upper left of the Mail app if you're using an iOS or iPadOS device, or if you click the arrow next to 'All Inboxes' on a Mac, you should be able to select that inbox specifically if you want them separated. Going further, you can Set up rules to filter email in Mail on iCloud.com which will allow you more customization in where messages go once they reach the mail server.

Take care.

Thanks Jaym_8

In setting up my family, I read that whilst each user can send using their custom domain email addresses, when they receive email it all all goes into the one iCloud email account. So I need to sort through my iCloud email (as the primary account) to separate the different recipients (i.e. my family). Is that your understanding? Have I got this right? Regards, Peter
