can't send message from Mac on Ventura

New Mac Air with Ventura. I can't send messages from the Apple Messaging app. I get the error "Not discovered".


Email works just fine so it's not an internet connectivity issue. I am logged into messaging with my Apple ID and password.


I tried signing out of messages and signing back in and also restarting the Mac, but to no avail.

Try these steps first
After trying each step below, try to send a message again. 
•Restart your Mac. Choose Apple menu  > Restart, then click Restart. 
•Make sure that your software is up to date. Learn how to update the software on your Mac.
•Make sure that your Mac is connected to the Internet. To check your Internet connection, try loading a page in Safari or another web browser.
Check that the date and time is set correctly on your Mac.
•Make sure that you enter the correct phone number or email address for the contact.


Are you looking to send iMessages (blue bubbles) or SMS/MMS messages (green bubbles)? If it's the latter, ensure that you have Text Message Forwarding set up successfully as well:

Forward SMS/MMS text messages from your iPhone to your Mac or iPad
