airtag location won’t update

It works when i’m near it. The issue is that when i’m not near it, and it was 10 mins down the road, i couldn’t locate it. I don’t understand how i’m supposed to use my airtag to locate my item if it’s missing, if i can’t connect to it to find where it is.

It happens frequently when i’m not near the item.

My sister who has an iphone was with the airtag on my keys and the signal didn’t pick up the airtag on my phone. I’m not quite understanding how an airtag works if i can’t locate my item if i’m not near it?

How often do you experience this issue?

Is it possible that there are no supported device near your AirTag that can send the location of your AirTag to iCloud?

As mentioned in the article below, "Your AirTag sends out a secure Bluetooth signal that can be detected by nearby devices in the Find My network. These devices send the location of your AirTag to iCloud — then you can go to the Find My app and see it on a map."
