Recover unsynced notes that got overwritten (not deleted).

It sounds like the new notes had not had a chance to sync to iCloud, even though the app seems to have thought they were. When toggling the iCloud setting, a waring about all iCloud notes being removed from the device should have appeared. Since the app seemed to think these notes were on iCloud, there is not going to be any way to recover them.

If they had been uploaded, they may be on another device that is signed into iCloud Notes with the same Apple ID. We would suggest checking there just to be sure.

To make sure that all the notes sync in the future, follow these steps found at Set up iCloud for Notes on all your devices - Apple Support:

Set up iCloud for Notes on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

1. On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, go to Settings > [your name] > iCloud.

2. Do one of the following:

• iOS 16, iPadOS 16, or later: Tap Show All, tap Notes, then turn on Sync this [device].

• iOS 15, iPadOS 15, or earlier: Turn on Notes.

3. To view notes stored in iCloud, open the Notes app. In the Folder list, select All iCloud or a folder in the iCloud section.
