Hi Vasu T R,

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities. To get started, if double tapping your Magic Mouse with two fingers does not open Mission Control on your Mac, have you gone into Apple menu  > System Preferences > Mouse and ensured that this gesture is available for your Mac?

Use Multi-Touch gestures on your Mac - Apple Support

For more information about these gestures, choose Apple menu  > System Preferences, then click Mouse. There you can turn a gesture off, change the type of gesture, and learn which gestures work with your Mac. Mouse gestures require a Magic Mouse.

If you're able to see that the gesture will work on your Mac, have you tried restarting your Mac to see if that's able to help, even if just temporary? If not, give that a try with the steps shown here: Shut down or restart your Mac - Apple Support

Restart your Mac
On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > Restart.

If you don’t want app windows that are open to reopen when your Mac restarts, deselect “Reopen windows when logging back in.”

While restarting may seem like a simple step, it can often help with resolving some unexpected issues like this.

Keep us updated on the results, and we'll continue from there.

Take care!

Greetings Vasu T R,

We're glad you had the opportunity to complete those steps. The gestures would be the same on both Magic Mouse models. If you haven't already, restarting using the steps previously linked is a great way to resolve many issues. If the issue persists after restarting, isolating the issue is a great next step. To isolate the issue, create a test admin user account, log out of your account, and test to see if the issue persists. You an create a test admin user account using the steps listed below. These steps can also be found in the following article.

  1. Click the Apple Logo towards the top-left.
  2. Click System Settings (System Preferences).
  3. Click Users & Groups.
  4. Click Add Account or the plus (+) sign depending on the macOS currently installed.
  5. Then follow the prompts to create a test admin user account.

Change Users & Groups settings on Mac

After it's been created, click the Apple logo towards the top-left, followed by Sign Out, then sign in to the test account.

Let us know how that goes!

Thanks for the suggestions. I tried all. But it did not work. I have the first generation Magic Mouse which has 2 AA battries and not the new one which has a charging port below the mouse. Not sure whether it is a limitation of the original Magic Mouse and whether there are any firmware upgrades that I need to install. Restarted the Mac - but still the issue persists.

Thanks for the suggestion. I created another user as suggested - but same issue. When I enable or disable the setting in the System Setting> Mouse - I can see the animation showing the double finger double tap - but feature is not working even after enabling.

Is there a way to factory reset or install latest firmware for Magic Mouse?
