Suddenly when replying to an e-mail I have a split screen. How do I get rid of it?

There is a toggle option of "Prefer opening messages in split view when in full screen", uncheck to get a normal window.
Mail > Preferences…
Change General preferences in Mail on Mac - Apple Support
