Make an iTunes purchase without using a Gift Card balance?

I have a gift card balance but I don't want to use it on this particular purchase. When I make the purchase will I be prompted to choose a payment or is iTunes going to automatically take it from my gift card?

I searched in Account/Manage Payments and the gift card is at the top of the list and while the order of other credit cards can be changed, Apple will not allow the order of the gift card to be changed, nor will Apple allow a credit card to be placed above the gift card.
