No notification sounds on iPad Air 2

I don't get any alert sounds when notifications come in. I open my iPad to find I've had several messages posted, that I never heard a sound from. I've tried adjusting through Sounds, and it tells me that Silent Mode is on.

That would be it. If you turn silent mode off and turn up your volume that should fix your problem.
