Link from Safari opens App Store instead of the App

When I click a link from Safari to see a specific video (in this particular case TikTok), it opens the app store. I have the TikTok app on my phone.

I deleted my Safari History and Website Data twice now. I even made sure TikTok was open. It just keeps opening the App Store.

I don't know how to find the video through TikTok since the link on Safari doesn't show the entire username, so this is very frustrating.

Hey there Robin,

While this would depend on several factors, mainly the website from which you're clicking on the link, we'd like to confirm more details about what's happening along with ruling out some possible causes:

  1. From which website are you clicking on the link to a TikTok video in Safari?
  2. Have you noticed other TikTok video links load in the TikTok app?
  3. If you've been able to load the same link in the past directly into TikTok, when did this start to occur?
  4. Sometimes unexpected behavior can be resolved with a restart: Restart your iPhone
  5. Since you have a compatible model , the latest version is iOS 16.1.2. You can verify this within Settings > General > About. In case you needed it, this link shows how to first back up, then Update your iPhone or iPad.
  6. We also recommend making sure that all apps are up to date: How to manually update apps on your Apple device

Cheers!

Hi, thanks for your response!

Since I posted this, it seems to have resolved itself, but I wanted to answer the questions in case anyone in the future has this issue and sees this post.

I used Google to search for a video, and from there was brought to a Tik Tok Discover page, but still in Safari. From there I was trying to tap on the video and watch it, and it kept opening the app store, even though I had already downloaded Tik Tok and restarted my phone after installing it.

My iOS is up to date, 16.1.2, and I had just installed Tik Tok so I assume that was up to date.

I restarted my phone one more time since then, but had lost interest in the video and forgot about this until today, tested it out and it did work so I came here to respond. Not sure how it fixed itself, but I had just installed TikTok so maybe that was why? I just figured a restart would have resolved that and it didn't initially, which is why I posted.

All good now, so thank you!

Thank you!
