Plugged in most all the time

Hi there, I would like some help - thank you all in advance.

I just received a new MacBook Air M2 16GB 1TB SSD.

I really want to better understand whether I can keep it plugged in most of the time or not.

A quick note: I have a MacBook Pro mid 2012, which was upgraded to 16 GB and 1 TB SSD in 2017, and I’ve been using this machine since 2012 and, believe it or not, battery cycles indicates 683 cycles and battery health is still around 87% (the original 2012 battery!!).

Usually, I keep it plugged in almost all the time - my working hours are “crazy”, could be 6AM or 11PM or anything in between.

I only unplug it from time to time, say something like once or twice a week, just to make the battery cells work some hours, then plug it again, cause, at lest to me, doesn’t make much sense plug, charge, unplug, discharge, plug, charge and so on 2 or 3 times every day.

So here comes my question: is this a bad thing?

Should I keep doing thse same thing with the new M2 Air?

Or you recommend a different approach?

Thanks a lot for your imputs and help.

Cheers.

You can leave the computer plugged in when necessary or convenient to do so. Leaving it plugged in will not damage the battery or the computer. The MacOS manages the power/charging system very well. There is no need for you to try to micro manage the system.
