The probably meant IMEI number. And yes, its should be printer on that back, however, that is generally unnecessary. To activate cellular service you just need to insert a sim card into the iPhone's sim card slot.
If that is not the activation you are referring to, then please explain exactly what you are trying to accomplish, and what you currently see on the Phone's screen when you turn it on.
