Why does my iPhone offload apps I am using?

I’ve seen a lot of explanations talking about offloading apps. I know how and why it happens. But what I don’t know, is why my iPhone closed my Discord and offloaded it while I was literally using the app. I use Discord every day and I was on the app when it glitched me out. I watched the app icon turn gray and thé little “offloaded” icon popped up.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? Thanks!

iPhone 11, iOS 16

Hello ren_io,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities! It sounds like an app was offloaded while you were using it. Is that right?

Has this only happened the one time, or has it happened again since you posted?

Has it happened with any other apps, or just Discord?

How much storage space do you have available under Settings > General > iPhone Storage? Also, how much space is being used by Discord specifically? You can tap the listing for Discord in the storage report to see how much is in use under the Documents & Data for the app.

This will help work out the best steps, but if you haven't already, backing up and updating to iOS 16.1.2 is a great step: Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

Take care!
