macOS Mail does not support TLS 1.3 SMTP/IMAP connections

Hi, this is pretty much a bug report. Hope it gets to the right place.

I run my own mail (SMTP+IMAP) servers and configured them to accept only TLS 1.3 connections from clients. Both SMTP and IMAP connections from Mail.app on Ventura 13.0.1 subsequently broke with TLS negotiation error in Connection Doctor, however the Mail app on my iPhone (iOS 16.1.1) continued to make connections and the servers reported them to be TLS 1.3.

I then re-enabled TLS 1.2 on my servers and macOS Mail.app could again make SMTP and IMAP connections. It seems that macOS Mail.app (and maybe perhaps other apps?) aren't TLS 1.3-enabled.

It is not the right place for bug reports as the product teams are embargoed from participation in these user-supported, public communities.

Send direct feedback to the Mail product team instead. As a fellow user, I have no way of knowing if TLS 1.3 will be in Apple Mail with the release of Ventura 13.1.

See Apple's Platform Security Guide section TLS Security which states that Safari, Calendar, and Mail automatically use TLS, that TLS 1.3 is supported, and any TLS clients using the SecureTransport APIs can’t use TLS 1.3.
