How to bless a OS 9 System Folder

Hello

I try since weeks to boot up my iMac G3 and i think finally i have the answer.

I copied/restored a OS9 install.dmg to a 1Gb Partition with the system folder etc. should work the same.

But it will not boot.

I cant install Panther because my Firmware is to old but i saw that when i boot from the Panther CD i can select my OS9 folder in startup disk.

When i do it it will not boot.

Now i think my solution is to bless this folder but i dont know how.

I have a Mac Book Air with Big Sur installed and a iMac G5 with Leopard and Tiger.

The harddrive from my G3 is right next to me and i have power and usb adapter ready.

I dont know if it is possible to bless it from big sur, but i would prefer it.

I hope you guys can help me.

Hi,

Blessing the System Folder is something you do on a pre-Mac OS X computer in order to update the boot blocks on a problematic startup disk (hard drive).

For example, on a System 7.x Macintosh computer, one would boot from a valid system/tools floppy. Once the hard disk icon can be seen, one would open the hard disk and then the System Folder on the hard disk. The Finder and the System (suitcase) would be moved out of the System Folder. Next, the System Folder would be closed. Then, one would drag the Finder and the System (suitcase) onto the closed System Folder (that is, the Finder and the System would be moved back inside the System Folder). Finally, the System Folder would show a little Mac icon. Restart, and the Macintosh would boot from the hard drive.

However, the situation in your case is different. Also, it is not possible to know in what condition the Mac OS 9 system inside the dmg file was/is. Normally, you would need a bootable, authentic Mac OS system CD for your exact iMac G3 model, or a later retail system CD. You could then install a valid system onto the hard drive.

Hello

Thank you for your anwser but last day i got it finally. I tried to install it threw classic on Tiger and i dont know but it worked, and that over usb.

Now everything is working and i was finally able to run a firmware update.

But back to blessing, i dont really need help now but i just want to know hoe the „bless“ „sudo bless“ command work?
