MacBook Air 8,1 2018 Retina 13"

The right side of my screen has a roughly 1.5" black bar -- the screen works up until that point. With an external monitor, there is no problem. The apple store said it needs a new screen. But could this be a cable connection?

That type of failure is usually due to the LCD Panel itself.
