Why can't I update my iPhone?

Having a hard time updating my phone . It’s available to update just it keeps saying software error .

It appears you are already engaged in updating your iPhone but are having problems. Here are Apple documents that may help you resolve this:

"Learn what to do if you see an error code or alert when you use your computer to update or restore your device."


You might be unable to update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch wirelessly — or over the air — for one of these reasons, with detail in this link. --> If your iPhone or iPad won't update - Apple Support

" Not enough available storage space on your device

Downloading the update takes a long time

Unable to reach the update server

The update doesn't complete"

Things to try:

Plug your device into your computer to update using your computer.

Delete content from your device and try to update again.

Manage the storage on your device with recommendations.


If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - You can put your iOS device into recovery mode, then restore it using Music/iTunes.

If you can't update or restore your iPhone or iPod touch - Apple Support


If you still have questions or problems:


Contact Apple. Click here --> Choose your country or region - Official Apple Support Select your country, then a product. If you don't see one that handles your issue then keep experimenting with selections until you reach one that gets you a chat session or a telephone call and get the representative to redirect you.

The iPhone 7 Plus cannot update to ios 16 only to iOS 15.


Go to settings>general>software update. Turn off low power mode, connect your phone to the charger and to a WiFi network


If you cannot update your iPhone wirelessly please update via a pc or mac instead


Update your iPhone using a Mac with macOS Catalina or higher

On a Mac with macOS Catalina or higher, you will use the finder in order to upgrade your iPhone. Make sure to Back up your device before starting the upgrade process.

On a Mac with macOS Catalina or later, you will follow the following steps:

  1. Open a finder window
  2. Connect your device to your Mac via a lighting to usb A or a lightning to usb c cable
  3. Select your device in the left sidebar of the finder window
  4. click general, then click check for update
  5. Click download and update.
  6. If asked, enter your iPhone passcode


Update your iPhone via a Mac running macOS Mojave or earlier, or on a Windows PC

On macOS Mojave or earlier, or on a windows machine, we won't use the Finder to upgrade your iOS

Instead, we will use iTunes. Make sure to Back up your device before doing any update or upgrade to your phone.

  1. Open iTunes
  2. connect your device to the computer with an lightning to usb a or a lightning to usb c cable
  3. Click device button in the iTunes toolbar
  4. In the summary tab, click check for update
  5. Click download and update, follow The on screen instructions
  6. If asked, enter your iPhone passcode.
