Due to software error, I am trying to copy an item from the application folder to the systems/application folder. I receive this message. I click authenticate and enter my password. It returns the same message. See copy of image. I am logged in as the admin for the computer. I am logging in with my password.

OS 12.6.1, last 2015 iMac

Any suggestions would be helpful. Fred rist

In no particular order….

”Due to a software error”? Could you explain what that means in this context; about what happened?

Could be a hardware problem, could be a storage corruption, could be add-on anti-malware, could be a protected app.

If the target app is among the protected (including all pre-installed apps), it cannot be deleted or overwritten. Which app?

For anti-malware and app collisions, and for reporting that can highlight some hardware issues, download and run EtreCheck, and share the report to the clipboard. Then open a new reply here, select the Additional Text button that looks like a printed page, and paste the hardware and software configuration report into that additional-text text input box, and post it here.

If the volume is corrupted, the path is usually a backup and a reinstall and a migration.

Do Apple Diagnostics report anything?

Use Apple Diagnostics to test your Mac - Apple Support

If the hardware is failing, it’s a repair (not usually economical on a 2015-era Mac, nor on a 21.5” iMac model more generally), or migrating to external SSD storage, or replacement with a more recent or current Mac, such as with the 24” iMac.

If 1Password can’t solve this, I’d expect your installation is probably corrupted. Back up, erase the Mac, install a recent macOS, migrate in your old content from using Setup Assistant during the install or Migration Assistant after the install. If you decide to use Migration Assistant after, use a different name and short name for the first-created Admin user, as you’ll want to leave the name and shortname you want to use available for the later migration.

ASC attachments appear to be malfunctioning. The attached report cannot be accessed. The network connection to Apple is lost. (These ASC errors tend to be intermittent when they arise, possibly related to ASC caching or IP network routing, and some areas and regions can usually access attachments, and some others cannot.)

more info.

I use 1password for saving password, etc. I upgraded from V7 to V8. I was not particularly impressed with this new version and went back to 7 for a short period before using V8. The upgrade was not smooth on my three Apple devices (27" iMac, iPhone X, and iPad air). I eventually got is all running, but when I would have a restart of the Mac, 1Password would tell me that it was not installed in the applications folder. It was in my applications folder, but it was not in the system/applications folder. I tried copying it over using the finder. The OS asked for authentication, but after I entered my password, I got the error.

I tried using Path Finder to copy it, but it again this failed. I went to the maker of the software, but they could not solve the issue.

I ran EtreCheck, I did not save anything so I will again and provide what it says.
