Ringtone/alert volume adjustment is backwards

Recently when I turn up the volume on my phone, all ringtones, notifications, and even keyboard haptics get quieter. When I turn the volume down, these sounds all get louder. For some reason music, videos and all sounds that don’t have to do with alerts are unaffected. Basically the volume buttons work backwards or in the opposite direction of the way they should.

The problem started a few weeks ago. Is this an iOS 16 bug, a hardware issue, or something that I can fix in settings?

Hi kekoaalii97,.

If you haven't done so yet, restart your iPhone. Although simple, this step can help correct some unexpected issues. iOS version 16.1 was recently released, so it's a good idea to make sure your iPhone is running the latest iOS version since this can help with overall performance: Apple security updates. If an update is available, be sure to create a backup before installing it.

This resource has some additional steps that may help: If a button or switch isn't working on your iPhone or iPad.

1. Remove any protective films or cases that might block the button or switch.
2. Check for debris or dirt around the button or switch and clean with a soft cloth.

Cheers.
